ENSENADA HONDA, CULEBRA, P.R........................

Every day this beautiful protected bay in CULEBRA grows on us (and I don't necessarily mean barnacles)............... The water is clear, the waves are reduced by the outer fringe reefs and everywhere the depth is 15 feet or more ................. We can fly across it in the 'Beemer' to do shopping in town, dump the trash(garbage), go to the public library and visit other cruisers...............And they, in turn, come to visit us................ The occassional rain shower washes the decks and keep things cool (Cool is a relative term).......... We are safely anchored behind the fringe reef at the entrance to the bay to get the best of the easterly breezes..............And one day seems to run into another, flawlessly................ There are probably some twenty yachts here waiting out the hurricane season, which so far, is a non-event and exactly what we were hoping for............ For a modest storm we have explored some mangrove channels, just in case................ And for a serious one, we will sail back to SALINAS on mainland PUERTO RICO in one hell of a hurry.................

Sea life here is abundant, and 'king' helmet and conch shells are everywhere in the sea-grass shallows......................This island and the surrounding islands are a lost paradise and a bumper sticker on cars in town say " LET'S KEEP AND PROTECT WHAT'S LEFT"................The shells of course went right back into the water.............. So the less said about this bit of "Paradise" the better..... Just wanted you to know where it was and is......................

Did I mention that they even provide you with free moorings.................

But the real jewels are the people.......They are incredible friendly, kind-hearted and as warm as toast and go out of their way to welcome you to PUERTO RICO........
