"CANBERRY" ..... IN ITS NATURAL STATE .................

We don't do this 'DOWN-UNDER' or anywhere else, but every last Thursday in November, the U.S. celebrates "THANKSGIVING" in which a whole bunch of turkeys get roasted ............. A couple are spared by the President and set free with no guarantee they won't get roasted the following year ........... Everybody gets together on this public holiday for a family feast ................ PUERTO RICO is no exception ...... We had been invited by sailing friends Carlos & Glory SELLES to join their family and friends in SAN JUAN ................. Normally cranberry sauce is served, but in P.R. it comes in a can, hence "CANBERRY" ......... That's Carlos's yacht (above) "GLORY DAYS" a very nice 42ft BAVARIA .

Wonderful to share the atmosphere, the fine food and the exquisite treats in a house filled with beautiful things like this painting of 'La Perla' Barrio and El Morro Castle .............. The 'white snow' on the roof tops is 'wishful thinking' by the local artist, methinks ...........

One of those delicacies was "PASTELES" made with chicken or pork and ground up yucca, breadfruit, olives and seasoning, then wrapped in banana leaves and boiled ................And this is what they look like after you remove the wrapping ........ There were so many more ........... And then they served this ice-cold "COQUITO", made of coconut milk, condensed milk, rum and vanilla ............. Ten Coquitos and you are FINITOS ........... A great time with Carlos, friends and family.

Thursday is followed by FRIDAY and now given a new name "BLACK FRIDAY" ........... When retailers open as early as 3am or 4am ............ A little crazy, because everyone is suffering from over----everything ............Retailers induce people to get up early and go shopping by advertising incredible bargains and door-buster low prices .......... The 'Black-Friday' part comes from the concept of finally putting the sales figures in the 'BLACK' .......... Now any fool can tell you that if this is what it takes, why not keep the prices low all the time, and always open the doors at 3am ........Look at these lines and this was WEDNESDAY, the day before "THANKSGIVING" ............. By Black FRIDAY it is chaos in the mall ............In San Juan the big mall is called "PLAZA DE LAS AMERICAS" .........Speaks for itself, doesn't it ............

CARLOS and GLORY .............. Wonderful hosts for a not-to-be-forgotten Thanksgiving ............ And on our way home to ARITA at the Ferry dock in FAJARDO, we suddenly realized for the first time that the Ferry's anchor seems awfully small for a vessel so large ...... Perhaps we were just so much bigger, having eaten so well ........ Next time we'll check the anchor again .......... But first a little starvation .............And a little less libation ........
