AT THE END OF THE CHICKEN LEG .............

At the very end of the island of ST. KITTS is White House Bay, where we have spent more than a week while the wind whistled overhead and whipped up the water in flurries ............. The whole island is shaped a bit like a chicken leg and we are at the very end of the chewable bone ............. Not that it has been bad, for we have had incredibly good internet from a house somewhere in the hills ...... Best-ever internet so far .... Tommorrow the wind will be under twenty knots (we hope) and we are ready to leave and sail to the sister island of NEVIS .......

The shoreline on this island is all composed of rounded stone and pebbles and the water is crystal clear.............Somewhat unusual, from the normally coral and sandy beaches ....

Anchored just in front of us was the catamaran 'Ti Kanot" which belongs to the doyen of Caribbean cruising, Mr CHRIS DOYLE who knows every anchorage on every island and whose books, "The cruising guides to the Windward and Leeward Islands" are superb publications. ......... That's Chris sitting between captain Arnd and myself aboard Arnd's yacht "ZANSHIN" ......... The beer mug must belong to one of them .........

The strong winds have made short work of our Aussie flag and so plans have been afoot to make our own .............. Nothing like a prolonged stay to get the job done compliments of our friendly sailmaker, Tommy White in Jacksonville FL who sent us some beautiful green and gold spinnaker cloth to play with .........

And speaking of 'playing'......... There is a piece of ground at the end of the 'CHICKEN LEG" that somebody from South Carolina bought, to do a little development project ........First dig some ponds at one end of the shallow lagoon to recover the soil and silt to be used to build a golf course on top of the hills ....... Dredge a channel through the pond to a depth of 20 feet and use the material to refill the ponds....... Build a whole bunch of roads, with water and services, then build a huge marina inside the lagoon and then no doubt the SUPER YACHTS and MEGA YACHTS will all come ............. To date more than a 100 million smackers have been spent which is great for local employment, but there is an aweful lot more to go ............. This is a big dream ... A really big dream ..... Some of the ponds and the lagoon are visible below, including the dredger hard at work 24 hours a day ...........

Anchored yachts in White House Bay are visible in the background with the Capital BASSETERRE even further back ................ On the left (Do a double-click on the photos to sharpen the image and see the details)...

" BUILD IT AND THEY WILL COME " ...... Hope that saying still works, because this is a humungous investment .......

Everything used to be so straight-forward, but even the wary have to be more cautious ......... Like this Aussie Captain on the yacht 'Millenium" in the Chicken leg anchorage ......... Look at the 'reminder' label he has installed on his yacht ....... You just can't be too careful now, can we ............... We watched a bunch of kayakers get undressed and receive instructions on the beach this morning ............. These were lilly-white people from one of the cruise ships in town, who stood somewhat naked in the sun for a good half-hour listening like school children to " THEM RULES " ............ We felt like taking a bucket of sun-tan lotion ashore ............. And they probably paid $30/head for the privelege of getting baked ............
