BOATS, GOATS AND SCOOTERS ...............
" ANOTHER DESPATCH FROM THE TRENCHES " ........ Notwithstanding our obvious 'hardship', we shall endeavor to valiantly move forward and continue to 'flog the mainsail ' ........ Spending time on an island like this, is incredibly rewarding and we are fortunate to be able to take the time ........... It is not like we have a plane to catch .... Not that it would do us any good, for over the hill is a runway but the last hurricane took out the landing lights and the only thing that still moves is the windsock ...... So do not book a flight to 'TERRE-DE-HAUT' airport to come and see these places for yourself ........ Catch the ferry from GUADELOUPE instead ......
The scooter rental came to 20 euros for the day and we travelled the whole island till there wasn't a road we had not done before ........... And in between we walked miles to hilltops and beaches and rocky outcrops ........... Exploring, meandering and smelling the flowers ............ And capturing only a bit of it on camera (and I nearly said film) ..... Whoopsie .... Don't you just feel sorry for KODAK .....
Now we know about lizard love and obviously it is in full swing here but we wonder if the iguanas have some sort of ancient totem worship thing going on ..... " Hey, Dan Browne .... You need to check this out " ...... The rock is the spitting image of an iguana head and the whole place is crawling with them ..... There's some real symbology here, mate .... Enlarge either photo and you will see one iguana half-way up with his/her head in the crevice and another at the bottom ........
Passed a couple of kids looking for their mother while we looking to see if any of the iguanas were going to do a swan dive from the top of the rock, like the guys do in Acapulco ............
Made it safely on our bright orange scooter to the beach at 'Plage de Pompierre' where we bought some delicious 'Crepe de Poisson' ....... Then came back and bought some more from 'Les deux mademoiselles' .......... I know that you know that ' poisson' is fish.... right!.....
Anyone in search of palms and warm blue water could not be happier in finding this little secluded paradise with complimentary picnic tables ......
Once again we are impressed by the way the French do their re-cycling ..... Here is a batch of plastic bottles ready to be shipped out as were various other materials all pelletised and palletised sitting in bags on the dock .......... Green, clean and energy efficient.......
And in our wanderings we found yet another ruined fort on the shoreline where the goats sleep at night in the old gunpowder magazines and nearby was a weather station ......... Sunny all day, no rain ....... Nothing to report ..... OUT
There are some very secluded beaches on the island but it seems that somebody overstepped the mark and now there is this signboard ..... NO NUDE BATHING ..... Be careful, or the French Gendarmes (all three of them) are going to get you ......... Although you will hear them coming on their scooters with sirens ... Then again, they first have to collect the evidence to present it to the Mayor ...... NESPAS ..... And we just don't see them carrying a 'bareness' person into town, on the back of a scooter ...........
