THOSE CHRISTMAS WINDS .................................

Our friends Don and Deborah, on the trimaran STARSHIP had warned us about the "CHRISTMAS WINDS" that blow like crazy, and now we know ................It has not let up for six days, never going under twenty knots and most of the time more than thirty knots............. Woke up this morning to see a yacht in the anchorage with its headsail in tatters and its main torn to pieces ............... I'm guessing he came in last night .............. All very depressing ............. We didn't even take the dinghy off the deck for the first three days .............. Finally we did go ashore, for a loaf of bread ($US 4.50) and a 2-litre bottle of milk ($US 8.50) ........... Like I said, depressing, although the views from shore more than make up for things on the sheltered side of the island........... We read a lot, watch movies and just now Laurie has thrown me a curved ball worth repeating " Living never wears you out as much the effort not to live "....... That's by a French/US lady writer Anais Nin ...............Now that's deep and needs thinking about ................And then there's this one " We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are " ............... There's more ..............First do a double-click to enlarge the photo above.

We are in a well-protected bay, away from the ocean waves that are running at 10 to 12 ft .............And grateful to be here, feeling really sorry for those that have saved all year to do a week's charter on a sailing yacht, and crazy enough to want to go out there ............ Rather stay put and smell the flowers, like this beautiful white hibiscus ...........Getting pollen on your nose is a much better deal ......... Do a double-click on the photos and you too, can get pollen on your nose .... And if I may quote that lady again " And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom " ..............

Our anchorage is not that far away from the beautiful granite boulders at " THE BATHS " ........... Which are now untenable with the wave surge ................. Laurie has just given me another quote from Anais Nin ........... Oh, this one is embarrassing .... " If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, if you do not sing in writing, then don't write, because our culture has no use for it " ........... Two things will now happen ....... You will stop reading, or you will go on .............

We were looking back at photos like this one taken at CULEBRITA, a little island off Culebra in the Spanish Virgin Islands ........ Double click on it to see the magic of the vista ....

We may not be sailing anywhere this week, but life still goes on .......... There are still beautiful things to see and do .............. We both ended up soaked to the skin in getting that loaf of bread and milk, and that in itself, was worth a good laugh ............ It seemed like we were paying twice over for some very expensive stuff ....... And we contacted friends on 'skype' with our super WIFI antenna ...... I keep coming back to that French/US writer/philosopher lady " Each friend represents a World in us. A World not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new World is born " ...........Good mind stuff, as we sit on board in the main cabin and have the time to talk and to listen .......Or to put it the way Anais Nin puts it ..... " Age does not protect you from love, but love to some extent protects you from age " ...............

Then again, she also said " GOOD THINGS HAPPEN TO THOSE WHO HUSTLE " ...............
